he also received a distinguished flying cross award for remaining in a burning air craft to save hundreds of lives at the expense of his own life, until he cleared the city and ejected from his burning aircraft 1/3 of the minimum ejecting altitude. he lived and only broke his neck and maybe a few other bones. This man taught my father to be loving and humble and in return also taught me.
